Featuring in Good Housekeeping magazine has been something I’ve dreamed about since setting up the business.
It is quite simply a publication that I really admire for so many reasons – it has been around in the UK since 1922, has a fantastically trusted and respected reputation and always features women I admire.
So to be interviewed and feature in the July 2015 issue was something the whole Bright & Beautiful office was so excited about when we got the call!
The feature I was in interviewed a number of women who had all started their now successful businesses on a small budget, from cleaning and dog carers to cookery.
Like all great ideas, Bright & Beautiful happened almost by accident! My husband Rob, who ran a property maintenance company, was asked if he offered a cleaning service. He asked me to go and quote for the service. I spotted a gap in the market and I had the idea decided to set up my own housekeeping business that used eco-friendly products and was run on a very ethical basis, with fair working rights and conditions.
It was too good an opportunity to miss so I literally set up with just £200, which is what I needed to buy cleaning materials, products and uniform. These were for our very first housekeeper, Julie, who has been with us from day one is now a much-valued member of our Head Office team.
From that very first client we went on to offer a regular service then worked our socks off to grow and to get the best people on board. I even taught myself web design so we would have a website up and running in order for potential clients and franchisees to see what we were all about.
Today we have more than 50 franchises and employ over 300 professional housekeepers across the UK. And we are enormously proud of every single one of them!
I’ve had so many great comments from our Bright & Beautiful team, our franchisees, our clients and family and friends since the article appeared. I really hope other female entrepreneurs will read it and be inspired to just think about how their life could change.
With a lot of hard work and a bit of luck, dreams really can come true!
